Sovereign Grace

About

  • Vision & Values

Why are we here? What are we here to do? We believe that all of us were created by God to worship him and enjoy him in relationship. Our vision is to be a church where anyone, regardless of where they are in faith and life, come and meet Jesus and to hear his gospel message. We believe that the way we worship and enjoy God is to do ministry along three dimensions and directions.

Looking up to see God. Looking at Jesus. Looking out to see the church and city that needs to be served. We believe this is what it means to be a Christian and a follower of Christ…to love God and neighbor. Our calling is to help people by meeting them where they are at, and helping them discover their calling…to worship God and enjoy him forever.

  • Our Story

In August 2006 a small group of five people began praying about a new a church in downtown Los Angeles with the vision of renewing the city spiritually, socially, and culturally. This prayer group formed a Bible Study in September studying the essential doctrines of the Christian faith using the Apostle’s Creed as the outline. On September 16, 2007 we officially launched Sovereign Grace Church with the blessing of our family, friends, and other churches.

Ministries

  • Community Groups

Community Groups are smaller gatherings of people who want to build friendship through learning and applying the gospel into their lives. Each group is composed of eight to twelve people who meet in homes for dinner, discussion/study, and prayer. Our community groups also participate in serving the church, serving the city, and various social events that come up in the life of Sovereign Grace.

This ministry is established on the biblical teaching that we were created for community. We need others to grow in our relationship to God. We need others to help us better understand and apply the gospel. Others need us for the same things. Our hope is that member of the church would be involved in a Community Group.

  • Children’s Ministry

At sovereign grace we value our children’s involvement and instruction. our children worship with the entire community until the sermon at which time they are dismissed to their bible study. we do this for a few reasons. first, we want families to come together and worship together as much as possible. secondly, we want our church to see the children as part of our community. lastly, we believe that worship is not just something children learn from a children’s ministry but also from the community. as the saying goes, it takes a village to raise a child.

As stated above, during the sermon children are dismissed to their own bible study. the curriculum we use is from DESIRING GOD MINISTRIES.

We currently have a nursery for infants-4 year olds and sunday school for k-6th grade. child care and children’s ministry is only available at the 10am service.

  • RENEWLA

Throughout the pages of Scripture, we see God’s heart for the poor. For some people, poverty is a result of laziness, craziness, or stupidity. When the Bible talks about poverty it uses words like oppression and injustice. We believe that it is the duty of all Christians to take the heart of God to our city by serving the poor with no strings attached.

RENEWLA is a non-profit arm of Sovereign Grace that serves as a bridge for the church to existing organizations that work with poor and oppressed. RENEWLA runs a tutoring program for at-risk youth in Los Angeles. Our vision to is to mobilize university students, working professionals, and emerging artists to serve at-risk students and create awareness regarding our city’s social issues. If you would like to receive more information please EMAIL US.

  • Classes

We provide different classes to equip our community with a Gospel-centered worldview so that they can grow in their relationship with God and live out the gospel in their relationships and in the city. We understand that heart transformation does not happen through obtaining information alone so our classes are designed to work with and towards our community groups. The goal of teaching classes is to lead people to our small groups where they process their knowledge in the context of a community.

Please go to the “NEWS” section of our website for information about current class schedules.

  • Premarital Counseling

    Premarital Counseling

Our church provides couples who are thinking about marriage and/or are engaged to be married with counseling which aims to prepare them for marriage.  Since we believe that marriage is a sacred relationship, we walk with couples through five sessions (approx. one and half hours each session) covering the following topics: Relationship History, Family Background & In-Law Relationships, Communication & Love Languages, Biblical Understanding of Marriage, Sex, and Finances.

If you would like more information or want to sign up for premarital counseling please EMAIL US. All sessions are with individual couples.  However if there a large number of couples seeking counseling we sometimes do two of the five sessions in larger groups.

  • Weddings

    Weddings

If you wish to arrange for an officiating pastor from Sovereign Grace Church, please fill out the EMAIL US. We will send you a document containing details on how to contact pastor(s), suggested honorariums for the wedding ceremony and counseling sessions, and an initial appointment questionnaire, which must be filled out before meeting with the pastor.
